Description The main finding of this research is that large scale stochastic flood models could be developed in data scarce regions using data from hydrological models.
Stochastic flood models are used to generate catalogues of flood events, used to evaluate flood risk. They typically need measured flow data as an input.
This research focuses on testing the use of synthetic data from global hydrological models instead.
The findings from this research show promising results and will prompt further research in developing large scale flood models in data scarce areas.
Exploitation Route Other researchers will be prompted to further evaluate the use of global hydrological models in developing large scale stochastic flood models.
Insurers and reinsurers will be able to use such models in the evaluation of flood risk at a large scale.
