Targeted Protein Degradation for the Treatment of Infectious Disease:
Lead Research Organisation:
University of Glasgow
Department Name: School of Chemistry
Abstract
In this project, we aim to extend the exciting MedChem strategy of targeted protein degradation to bacteria. This is totally unprecedented, and inherently challenging because bacteria use different systems to degrade their proteins than eukaryotes (like humans). However, this also represents a unique opportunity, as targeting a different system of protein degradation allows for high selectivity for bacterial (rather than eukaryotic) cells, which is beneficial from a safety perspective. This project is in direct alignment with the EPSRC's Chemical Biology research area.
