Abstract
Total
Carbide are a world class manufacturer of Tungsten Carbide machining components and
have established a large client base in the precision engineering sector.
Composite materials have rapidly growing choice of component material due to their light
weight, high strength and the ability to influence minimum part count assemblies.
Composite machining has brought with it difficulties in manufacturing due to excessive heat
production caused by the preferred method of dry cutting the material leading to delamination
of the composite and therefore expensive quality failures and material waste.
Total Carbide hope to explore the market potential of exploiting cutting edge material
technologies in foamed copper from sister company “Versarien” to produce a tool capable of
high heat transfer thus self-cooling allowing optimised cutting speeds and increased quality
results at an affordable cost. Before undertaking any such development, Total Carbide need to
identify the opportunities that lie in the market, the current competitor product portfolio,
selling practices and the key distributers through the completion of this proposes detailed
market study
