Quanteco: High Performance Portable Gas Sensors

Abstract

Quanteco Sensor Technology Limited has secured the rights to exploit a novel optical sensor
technology utilising a new type of Infra Red (IR) detector that is specifically designed to
achieve unprecedented sensitivity in narrow spectral response applications.
The technology is particularly suited to the detection of the absorption signatures of very
specific compounds in cluttered signal environments such as greenhouse gases, explosives,
fugitive emissions from industrial installations and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs).
The critical advantage, and hence differentiator, of this technology is that the superior
detection sensitivity facilitates a purely passive detection mode. This means specific
compounds can be detected optically without having to actively illuminate the area of interest
with broad band IR to generate strong absorption signatures.
This radically simplifies both the complexity of the sensor and the concept of operations.
Hence our current plan is based around the realisation of a very cost-effective, high
performance compact sensor with a price target of £1k-5k.
The study will aim to verify whether the technology is commercially viable in terms of
sensor performance, price point, and overall market acceptance in a range of high value add
applications, to define the business case for a prototype development programme.
