Colour to colourblind: image enhancement for colour deficient observers
Lead Participant:
SPECTRAL EDGE LIMITED
Abstract
Colourblind people cannot see many of the image details that are visible to colour-normal observers. The Spectral Edge technology can reveal to colourblind people the details they miss, by mapping the entire image contrast into the “range” visible to them. Crucially, and in contradistinction to competing technologies, the Spectral Edge method makes detail visible to colourblind observers but also maintains the look and feel of images for colour normals.
This technology has several applications and can be employed in any device that has a digital display. In our product pipeline is a smartphone app which will convert the camera input into a “colourblind friendly” picture. In the longer term, this technology could be distributed in the form of graphics drivers for computers, or directly embedded in TVs or computer screens.
