Within the HGV industry there are a number of companies who use onboard computers and
hardware to provide information relevant to the performance of that vehicle and it’s driver.
Use of telemetry to feed back information such as driver behavior, vehicle tracking,
punctuality and load security so that it can be used positively by transport/fleet managers is
big business. All HGV businesses are trying to become more efficient with both fuel and

and better maintained, will spend longer on the road creating value, will consume less fuel
thus emitting less CO2, and HGV businesses will become more efficient and sustainable as a
result. The project will also allow for the creation of industry standard protocols so all future
players within the marketplace will be able to communicate using a semantic communications
layer. The benefits to the HGV industry and UK economy will be measured in terms of
