Abstract

The aim of the INSIGHTS Project is to demonstrate the capability of unique data algorithms for Social Media Monitoring (SMM) to provide strategic and tactical insight into the coverage being experienced by different brands. Brandwatch’s current SMM solution provides a single, complete view of social media, with relevant insights on ‘what’ is happening. The new analytics will provide information on the ‘why’, as well as the ‘what’, to improve strategic and tactical brand management.
The innovation in the INSIGHTS Project is based upon the creation of the new data
algorithms for:
a) Data enrichment to significantly expand the breadth of sources and depth for each source and the range of raw data input into the pattern analysis algorithms. These algorithms will enable the web crawlers to extract additional metadata;
b) Pattern analysis so that new short and long term insights can be derived from the retrieved data. Correlation between the real-time data feeds and trend-based analytics will be introduced;
c) Data presentation and visualisation so that the appropriate insights can be supplied in a timely and easily digestible form.
A recent state-of-the-art product survey by BW has shown there is no commercial solution providing the new insights proposed by this Project. Successful delivery of these novel features will provide a brand owner with significant:
a) Time savings as they do not need to trawl and analyse the very large amounts of data
(terabytes per day) to find the relevant 0.1% information. The low cost of entry for using these new features will enable a broader range of brand owners to make use of SMM;
b) Increased business intelligence with insights derived from the full spread of social media enabling them to improve the impact of their market campaigns, increase customer satisfaction, etc.
Prototype demonstrators will be produced and evaluated to confirm the approach and to
ensure that the required performance is achieved.
