Abstract

Abstracts are not currently available in GtR for all funded research. This is normally because the abstract was not required at the time of proposal submission, but may be because it included sensitive information such as personal details.

Description This project explored the significance of the concepts of 'affect' and 'affordance' on understandings of community. A key finding of the project was that traces of these concepts can be found within many of the 'classic community' studies of the mid twentieth century. The study also demonstrated the value of mobile and psycho-social interviewing in the examination of affect and affordance.
Exploitation Route The findings of this project fed directly into the development of an AHRC Demonstrator project that sought to further examine the concepts of affect and affordance within community studies and the influence of mobility on the construction of contemporary communities.
