Abstract

Abstracts are not currently available in GtR for all funded research. This is normally because the abstract was not required at the time of proposal submission, but may be because it included sensitive information such as personal details.

Description We have developed the application of the novel, iron-specific technique nuclear resonance vibrational spectroscopy (NRVS) to studies of nitric oxide sensing by a range of transcriptional regulators, including NsrR and Wbl proteins. This has provided important new insight into the mechanisms of sensing - how the sensory module (an iron-sulphur cluster) reacts with nitric oxide to form iron-nitrosyl intermediates and products.
Exploitation Route Our work has shown how NRVS can be applied to proteins that play an important physiological role in relation to nitric oxide. The work could be taken forward by others studying similar or different types of iron protein.

Description The Partnership award enabled exchange of people and expertise between the Le Brun and Cramer groups, and facilitated their collaboration on iron-sulfur regulatory proteins. Papers arising from this interaction have been published recently, and while there is not yet any direct non-academic impact, the insight provided has laid and is laying the foundation for this in the future.
