| Description | This collaboration led to the organisation of two workshops at the U. of Zurich attended by UK-based and Switzerland-based researchers in 2023. The workshops involved discussions about methods, tools and key topics for the analysis of the impact that multilingualism had on the vocabulary of medieval English. This involved papers by and discussion amongst lexicographers, historical linguists and literary experts at different stages in their careers. Papers arising from the workshop have been published in a special issue of the open access journal Lexis. The opportunity that these meetings gave the network leads to discuss their respective plans for future projects on the vocabulary of Middle English was extremely beneficial. Pons-Sanz, Dance and Sylvester are currently working an AHRC funding application. |
| Exploitation Route | As noted above, many of the papers that were presented in the two workshops have been published in a special issue of Lexis. Because of the wide range of topics covered, focusing on etymology, semantics, stylistics, sociolinguistics, etc., they are likely to be beneficial to a wide range of scholars. The attendees to the workshop included lexicographers and, as such, these discussions are likely to inform the lexicographic practices amongst various teams (Historical Thesaurus, Dictionary of Medieval Latin from British Sources, Anglo-Norman Dictionary) |

| Description | As noted in another section, the attendees included lexicographers working on a range of resources that are publicly available (Historical Thesaurus, Anglo-Norman Dictionary). Accordingly, our discussions will influence their practices (e.g. in terms of the identification of loans or the semantic spread of terms), which will, in turn, benefit a wide range of academic and non-academic users. The Dictionary of Medieval Latin from British Sources is already completed, but our discussions have informed future discussions by the team, as Richard Ashdowne, the general editor, was one of the attendees. |
