Description | Parasitoid wasps are important for biological control of insect pests. They are able to invade the host insect by suppressing immune responses. The work carried out under this grant enabled investigations of specific proteins produced by parasitoid wasps to investigate their mechanisms of action. This research is intended to lead to exploitation of proteins from parasitoids as insecticides, either as recombinant proteins or as products to be expressed by transgenic plants. This area of research is continuing. |
Exploitation Route | The use of proteins from parasitoid wasps as potential insecticidal components for use in crop protection has been taken up by other researchers, although no commercially viable results have been reported to date. |
