Mechanism of axonal mitochondrial transport and quality control: impact on neuronal homeostasis and neurodegeneration

Lead Research Organisation: Babraham Institute
Department Name: UNLISTED

Abstract

Abstracts are not currently available in GtR for all funded research. This is normally because the abstract was not required at the time of proposal submission, but may be because it included sensitive information such as personal details.

Technical Summary

Recently a novel mechanism was proposed for Parkinson’s disease which also has important implications for how mitochondria are maintained during normal ageing. However, the mechanism was worked out in a non-neuronal cell line. The aim of this project is to understand mechanisms by which mitochondria are maintained during ageing in neurons, and most specifically in their axons.
