Mechanisms of evolution and release of biogenic gases

Lead Research Organisation: Inst of Grassland and Environmental Res
Department Name: UNLISTED

Abstract

Abstracts are not currently available in GtR for all funded research. This is normally because the abstract was not required at the time of proposal submission, but may be because it included sensitive information such as personal details.

Technical Summary

To provide an understanding of the mechanisms leading to the release of biogenic gases (methane, nitric oxide, nitrous oxide, non-methane volatile organic compounds, ammonia) and a scientific basis for strategies to mitigate such emissions. Three research areas: Optimisation of biogas generation via an increase understanding of the role of extracellular polymer substances. Improved understanding of greenhouse gas emissions from the soil-plant system. Characterisation of infiltration of liquid/semi-liquid organic amendments to soils; impacts on ammonia emissions.
