Abstract
Abstracts are not currently available in GtR for all funded research. This is normally because the abstract was not required at the time of proposal submission, but may be because it included sensitive information such as personal details.
Technical Summary
Genomic research in livestock has identified QTL controlling variation in several aspects of meat quality. In some cases, the genes controlling this variation are known. The student will select a panel of markers representing 1) tests that are currently available commercially and 2) candidate genes with evidence of effect on red meat quality, and test these against data on meat quality obtained in a commercial setting. The information will be used to devlop an implementation plan to demonstrate how this information could be applied.
