Director, Large Scale Complex IT Systems Institute

Lead Research Organisation: University of Southampton
Department Name: Electronics and Computer Science

Abstract

The director-designate (DD) will consult widely with relevant stakeholder groups in industry, academia, and the public sector to identify a programme of research and training that meets the UK's national need for advancing knowledge in large-scale complex IT systems. Following this, the DD will write a formal set of proposal documents including a budget and management structure which will then go to peer-review. The Research Chair fellowship applied for here runs for one year and is intended to conclude with the formal acceptance of the final set of proposal documents; at which point the funding applied for in the final proposal documents will include a component to pay for the director over the first five years of the Institute's existence.

Description This was not really a research grant: the funding was used to facilitate research-planning, rather than actual research. Once the plan was executed, research work started to be done, but that was after this grant had terminated and is instead recorded against grants EP/F001096/1 and EP/H042644/1
Exploitation Route The guidance for how to complete this says: "In the context of your Pathways to Impact statement how do you now envisage your research outcomes being taken forward; please consider academic and non-academic routes." but this is simply not applicable to this grant -- there was no "Pathways To Impact" statement, for reasons made clear above.
