3rd International Conference on Nanomaterials and Nanomanufacturing

Lead Research Organisation: Loughborough University
Department Name: School of Mathematics

Abstract

The proposal relates to suppport for early career stage researchers and PhD students to attend the 3rd IOM3 International Conference on Nanomaterials and Nanomanufacturing and for support for the keynote and invited speakers. The two previous meetings in this series have attracted internationally leading speakers to talk about aspects of nanomaterials and nanomanufacturing. It is essential that early career stage researchers and PhD students are exposed to such internationally leading researchers, especially in a rapidly moving field such as is the focus of the meeting. The meeting will also give them an opportunity to present their work, which is an important part of their professional development.

Description The project funded PhD student participation at a international meeting. It was important for exposing early career researchers to internationally leading speakers. Key speakers at the meeting were

Daniel Morse, UCSB

Rodney Ruoff, NorthWestern University

Uzi Landman , Georgia Tech

Terry Wilkins, University of Leeds

Horst Weller, Universitat Hamburg

Jean-Pierre Colinge, Tyndall Nat. Institute

Martin Hegner, TCD

Lars Samuelson, Lund University

Vahid Sandoghar, Swiss Federal Institute

Mark Hillmyer, University of Minnessota

Andrew Briggs, Oxford University
Exploitation Route The early career researchers were exposed to numerous talks on the commercialisation of nanotechnology and on talks covering societal issues with using nanotechnology. This will aid them in their careers and in driving future enterprise.
