Haunton R.K. (2016) A novel point source method for inverse scattering in waveguides in Proceedings of the Institute of Acoustics

 
Description Through this grant, which provided funding for a PhD student Rebecca Haunton, we have worked on the development of novel numerical algorithms for recovering the position and shape of obstacles in waveguides through remote acoustic sensing. The main results, reported in Haunton's PhD thesis and in papers in preparation, are new numerical methods for solving this inverse problem, mathematical results that provide partial evidence that these methods work, and numerical experiments demonstrating successful reconstruction of obstacles.
Exploitation Route In follow-on work the PhD student is currently on a two-year postdoc with me at Reading to develop the methods further. The methods are generically useful for inverse scattering problems in wave guides.
