Abstract

Abstracts are not currently available in GtR for all funded research. This is normally because the abstract was not required at the time of proposal submission, but may be because it included sensitive information such as personal details.

Description We have developed a new program of work which can assign peaks to chemical groups in our spectra. This new interpretation is allowing us to map chemical functionality across polymeric membranes, nanotubes and to understand how bone is altered in diseased tissues.
Exploitation Route We have had a BP grant funded on reverse osmosis membranes for water desalination and are using the techniques developed to map chemical gradients across these membranes to understand how water permeates through the membranes. I have a program of work funded by the Wellcome Trust to understand how the chemistry of bone is altered during diseases such as brittle bone disease. This could help guide development of new treatements for bone fractures.
