Abstract

Abstracts are not currently available in GtR for all funded research. This is normally because the abstract was not required at the time of proposal submission, but may be because it included sensitive information such as personal details.

Plecas M (2011) Review of HPC applications for future power system analysis tools in Universities' Power Engineering Conference (UPEC), Proceedings of 2011 46th International

Description There are high expectations for the application of HPC in numerous areas, however, as a number of similar projects around the world confirmed, some optimization problems may be very difficult to translate in a parallel form that can benefit from HPC. However, new developments and a move towards possibly more decentralise operation may enable achieving better results regarding application of HPC in power system operation.
Exploitation Route We are still looking into other approaches and using work that was not initially available when we started this project. The issue of application of HPC in power system operation is really only starting to get explored by industry, and therefore we plan to continue with our research further, through some other avenues. In particular, we are part of IEEE community that is looking into applications of HPC in electricity industry.
