Description The main part of this grant (held by Betcke, UCL) was used to fund development of the software package BEM++, see http://www.bempp.org/. The purpose of this part of the grant was to use BEM++ to solve challenging and realistic problems arising in models of scattering by ice crystals, with applications to modelling the radiation balance of cirrus clouds. This was achieved via the publication "The boundary element method for light scattering by ice crystals and its implementation in BEM++", Journal of Quantitative Spectroscopy and Radiative Transfer, Volume 167, December 2015, Pages 40-52, doi: doi:10.1016/j.jqsrt.2015.08.001, written by my PhD student, Samuel Groth.
Exploitation Route It is anticipated that the software package BEM++ will now be widely used by practitioners in a number of fields.
