Abstract

Abstracts are not currently available in GtR for all funded research. This is normally because the abstract was not required at the time of proposal submission, but may be because it included sensitive information such as personal details.

Description We have developed new methods for fast transport measurements in rock cores and porous media. These have been applied to dissolving (reactive) rocks where the new methods are required. A number of dissolution regimens have been identified from the structural changes, and the resulting changes in transport have been quantified
Exploitation Route The experimental results and methods developed here can be used to develop and validate dissolution models. This could also be extended to different rock morphologies and chemistries, both experimentally and theoretically. There is also work to be done on comparison/validation with ICL model.
The importance of understanding flow of acidic fluids in rocks is of increasing importance with carbon sequestration being considered as a mechanism to mitigate against climate change
Sectors Agriculture, Food and Drink,Chemicals,Energy,Environment,Manufacturing, including Industrial Biotechology,Other

Description Results are now being used to validate and developed model being developed at Imperial. These models will then be made available to the community. Learning from this project is being used to continue work into understanding carbon sequestration in rocks.
