Abstract

Abstracts are not currently available in GtR for all funded research. This is normally because the abstract was not required at the time of proposal submission, but may be because it included sensitive information such as personal details.

Description This project produced the first epitaxial growth of metastable zinc blende manganese selenide layers, known for its anti-ferromagnetic properties. The MnSe layers were thick enough to allow characterisation using X-ray allowing the lattice constant for the zinc blende MnSe was calculated directly for the first time.

The project investigated the growth of manganese sulphide epitaxial layers, producing the first full phase diagram describing optimal growth conditions.
Exploitation Route The outcomes can be taken forward by those inetrested in materials with anti-ferromagnetic properties, possibly in computer memory and similar fields.
