| Description | We have found out a new method for modelling privacy issues using a user-centric graphic model based on flows of personal data shared by a target user, which can be used to automatically detect privacy issues and provide enhanced awareness and recommendations to the user for balancing privacy and value enhanced via data sharing. We have produced a first version of the socio-technical framework for balancing privacy and value enhancement, tailored for leisure travels but generalizable to other application areas. Through analysis of data collected from a large panel survey of leisure travellers, we have identified a number of ways to cluster users into different profiles and a machine learning based method to automatically classify users. Through the development of an Android app for the project, we have proved that it is feasible to implement key components of the socio-technical framework for end users. The app has now a relatively stable version for wider testing and further enhancement. |
| Exploitation Route | the privacy assessment model and software tools can be used by others who wish to measure privacy risks on selective online platforms. The privacy assessment model has also informed the consortium to leverage it as a shared facility to bid for other research opportunities. |

| Description | Enhancing Consumer Trust: By promoting privacy-aware data management practices, PriVELT helps travel companies enhance trust among consumers. In an era where data breaches are a significant concern, demonstrating commitment to privacy can be a competitive advantage. Innovative Business Models: The project's focus on value enhancement for leisure travelers could lead to the development of innovative business models that leverage personal data ethically to offer personalized services, thereby opening new revenue streams for companies in the travel sector. Regulatory Compliance: With increasing scrutiny on data privacy from regulations like GDPR, PriVELT provides valuable insights and tools for companies to ensure compliance, thereby reducing the risk of hefty fines and reputational damage. Public Engagement and Education: By raising awareness about the importance of privacy in personal data management, PriVELT contributes to a more informed public discourse on the topic. Educated consumers are more likely to make choices that protect their privacy, influencing industry standards and practices. |

| Description | Android application to centralise known data from different services. The project is funded by PriVELT (https://privelt.ac.uk/). PriVELT aims to make travellers aware of the risks of the Internet. The application collect all private data known by the different services (see Services supported), to inform users and help them to reduce privacy risks. PriVELT also monitor local installed applications by checking all the permissions they are asking for, and which permissions are granted by the users. PriVELT does not have a remote server, or any other other centralised record of user data. All the information is held locally on devices / personal storages owned by the users. The local database is secured with a password known and chosen only by the user. PriVELT also provides scores and charts to help users to understand the privacy issues they are facing. |
