Abstract

Abstracts are not currently available in GtR for all funded research. This is normally because the abstract was not required at the time of proposal submission, but may be because it included sensitive information such as personal details.

Description Previously there was empirical evidence that a certain type of modulation (circulation modulation) in Multi-level DC/DC converters could ensure that sub-modules inherently achieved voltage balance and obviate active balancing techniques. During this work we have developed analysis that identifies the conditions under which this is true and provided a proof of convergence of sub-module voltages following a disturbance. The a paper has been published on each aspect.

Analysis has been conducted on how distortion on the AC-side of a multi-level AC/DC converter propagates to the DC-side. This establishes for our partners a Manchester and Strathclyde a way to quantify the AC ripple appearing on the DC cable insulation. This work is not yet published because we need full access to laboratory facilities to obtain experimental verification of the analysis and this has been restricted under COVID precautions..
Exploitation Route Initially this will assist project partners in establishing test conditions for insulation samples.
