Fresh perspectives for QED in intense backgrounds: first quantised techniques in strong field QED

Abstract
Abstracts are not currently available in GtR for all funded research. This is normally because the abstract was not required at the time of proposal submission, but may be because it included sensitive information such as personal details.

| Description | The topic of this project is laser-matter interactions. Our objective was to use novel methods to produce results unavailable using standard methods. In this we are succeeding; so far the project has yielded three papers (one of which was chosen as an Editors' Selection in PRD) containing novel and surprising results which are not at all obvious from standard perspectives. |
| Exploitation Route | Our results can be taken up by a broad range of researchers, from those working directly on laser-matter interactions to those in adjacent fields, such as amplitudes. |

| Description | Research trip Edinburgh --> Plymouth |
| Organisation | University of Plymouth |
| Country | United Kingdom |
| Sector | Academic/University |
| PI Contribution | The other half of this grant is held by the team in Plymouth (PI J.P. Edwards). From 4th December to 8th December inclusive, 2023, we (Ilderton + Rajeev) visited Plymouth (Edwards + Copinger) to discuss the next states of the project. During an intensive week of collaboration not only identified a pomising avenue for future research, but also successfully overcame the main technical problems of the proposed project. As such we were able to transition into writing up the project after the research trip. |
