Abstract
The Faculty of Science and Engineering at Queen Mary University of London
(http://www.qmul.ac.uk/about/se/) typically awards 35-40 fully or half funded PhD students each year, a number of which are supported through our EPSRC Doctoral Training Partnership (9 of the faculty's studentships were supported by the EPSRC DTP in 2017). All studentships are allocated to individual research projects in its academic Schools and Institutes and these cover a wide range of research disciplines including: astronomy, bioengineering, biological science, chemistry, computer science, electronic engineering, engineering, materials science, mathematics, psychology and physics. More detailed subject information can be found at: http://www.qmul.ac.uk/postgraduate/research/subjects/index.html. The closing date for applications is the 31st January (see http://www.qmul.ac.uk/postgraduate/research/index.html) and successful applicants can expect to be invited for interview shortly after this date. QMUL has an innovative and thriving research community in which all our PhD students play an important part. The Doctoral College, QMUL's Graduate School (see http://www.doctoralcollege.qmul.ac.uk/) oversees the recruitment, admission, training and development, academic progression and examination of QMUL's PhD students. A very wide range of training opportunities are afforded all PhD students both internally and externally covering a range of subject specific as well as softer transferable skills. This includes a number of pan-university cohort events as well as the annual Graduate Festival (https://qmulgradfest.wordpress.com/) which is a week-long student lead event supported by the Doctoral College. All PhD students can also apply to the Postgraduate Research Fund which provides up to £1k support to attend a conference as well as the Doctoral College Initiative Fund which provides up to £1k to support student lead research events to enrich the research environment at QMUL (http://www.doctoralcollege.qmul.ac.uk/?page_id=59).
