Encoding versus retrieval processes in false recognition
| Description | That false memories are easily created under controlled laboratory conditions and can result from processes operating at both encoding (when other material is learned) and retrieval (when the material is recalled). |
| Exploitation Route | These findings are important to theories of memory, especially recent theories about the possible adaptive nature of false memories. The PI was recently awarded an ESRC grant to investigate the possibility that the processes that give rise to false memories can help with the planning of future activities. |
