Abstract

Abstracts are not currently available in GtR for all funded research. This is normally because the abstract was not required at the time of proposal submission, but may be because it included sensitive information such as personal details.
 
Description We piloted a series of training events for interdisciplinary researchers which demonstrated demand for further developmental support for interdisciplinary capacity building at all stages in the academic career.
Exploitation Route I am currently working on secondment with the university's Institute for Academic Development to develop our findings further.

Description This work has been picked up by various academic groups and by research funders. For example, I have been invited to give a plenary address at the Irish Research Council's annual meeting in November 2014 on the role of funders in promoting interdisciplinary research.

Results and Impact The ESRC grant enabled us to develop a series of three interdisciplinary capacity building workshops "Interdisciplinary Masterclasses" which have now led to invitations to deliver similar training for external organisations such as the RELU programme, the Biosciences KTN, the Association for Research Centres in the Social Sciences, the Universities of Glasgow, Southampton and St Andrews and, most recently, Wayne State University in Detroit and the University of Copenhagen.
