Description Extensive archival research at the British Library presented a whole range of sources that helped strengthen the working hypothesis - that apart from studying the social history of the Islands from the broad frames of colonial penal policy and convict experience it was also necessary to understand the singularity of the historical conjuncture of the inter-war years in order to make sense of the complex constitutive forces that shaped the Islands' contemporary social formations.
