Results and Impact The methodology and the findings of the study were presented to first year BSc SLT undergraduate students on a course unit on child language development. The lecture covered aspects of children's linguistic development in the school years including the use of complex syntactic constructions involving subordination (i.e. indirect speech subordinate clauses, e.g. She said that she didn't like it; temporal and causal subordinate clauses, e.g. After they saw the film they went home, They liked the film because it was very funny).

Results and Impact The methodology and the main findings of the study were shared through the Hello website (http://www.hello.org.uk/your-stories/your-stories/examples-of-strategic-best-practice.aspx).

The website is the repository of Hello, the campaign launched in 2011, the year of communication, to increase understanding of how important it is for children and young people to develop good communication skills.

Results and Impact The two schools that took part in the project were provided with preliminary reports on the children's performance immediately after the end of the data collection phase in June 2010. This first set of anlayses included the outcome of the input manipulation on the children's use of subordination in narratives after the first post-test, and their results on standardized tests of receptive vocabulary (British Pictures Vocabulary Scale) and expressive grammar (Formulated Sentences sub-test of the Clinical Evaluation of Language Fundamentals, 4th edition UK). The results of the standardized tests were validated by the co-author, an experienced speech and language therapist. Children's identities were protected by the use of numerical IDs.

Results and Impact The two schools that took part in the project were provided with final reports on the children's performance six months after the end of the data collection phase at the end of 2010. This set of analyses included the outcome of the input manipulation on the children's use of subordination in narratives after the two post-tests, and their results on standardized tests of receptive vocabulary (British Pictures Vocabulary Scale) and expressive grammar (Formulated Sentences sub-test of the Clinical Evaluation of Language Fundamentals, 4th edition UK). Results and Impact This is a collection of 299 narratives from 100 5-year-old English-speaking children. Each child contributed three different stories to the corpus at three different time points. The first story was recorded during the pre-test, before a two-week language training phase. The second and third story were collected after the intervention phase, one week and ten weeks later respectively. The narratives were digitally audio-recorded and transcribed using the CHAT format specified in the CHILDES manual (MacWhinney, 2000). The corpus has been donated to CHILDES (childes.psy.cmu.edu), the child language component of the TalkBank system (http://talkbank.org/). TalkBank is a system for sharing and studying conversational interactions.
