Description Using test-retest data to identify expert consensus in a study of health and social care professionals' judgements

Results and Impact This paper considers approaches that could be used to evaluate professionals' decision making capacity using test-retest data. Judgement analysis methodology was used to explore decision making by professionals from the social care and health sectors. Professionals (n = 152) viewed a set of 65 case scenarios involving suspected elder financial abuse, which included 15 repeated cases, and made judgements such as their level of certainty of abuse. We will present the findings of cluster analysis of professionals' raw judgement scores, and three measures of judgement consistency used to evaluate expertise will be reported; test-retest reliability, Cochran-Weiss-Shanteau (CWS) index scores and a newly created categorical judgement consistency measure. We will discuss the insights gained from the measures and present evidence regarding the selection of an expert consensus group. We will finish by discussing how the judgement policies of the identified expert consensus group have been used to develop an on-line decision training aid, which is currently being tested using a randomised controlled trial.
