Towards implanted optoelectronics for in vivo cytomics

Lead Research Organisation: CARDIFF UNIVERSITY
Department Name: UNLISTED

Abstract

Abstracts are not currently available in GtR for all funded research. This is normally because the abstract was not required at the time of proposal submission, but may be because it included sensitive information such as personal details.

Technical Summary

This project aims to integrate semiconductor optical devices into bio-implants. This would provide a biophotonic system based around hollow plastic fibers used for in-vivo assessment of drug therapuetics. The fibers contain implanted cells which are spatially contained but can have full biochemical interaction with the host. The fiber also acts as a light guide to allow fluorescent read-out of the cell reactions.
