Abstract

Abstracts are not currently available in GtR for all funded research. This is normally because the abstract was not required at the time of proposal submission, but may be because it included sensitive information such as personal details.

Technical Summary

Neuronal dysfunction is central to disease of the nervous system, the site within the neuron in which the pathology is initiated may vary with the disease. We are using an in vitro organised neuronal culture system to study the impact on the cell of insults which are caused within the axon. In order to increase biological relevance of the system, we would like to investigate the possibility of developing a micro-electrode system to incorporate into the chambers. In order to do this we would like to send a biologist into a an engineering lab with significant experience in the development of micro-systems, with particular experience in the study of th effect of electrical fields of cells.
