Collaborative Computational Project Number 14 For Single Crystal and Powder Diffraction

Lead Research Organisation: University College London
Department Name: Chemistry

Abstract

CCP14 is a Collaborative Computational Project providing core support to benefit UK academics, researchers and students. Its aim is to acquire and develop the necessary freely available crystallographic software resources required for small molecule single crystal and powder diffraction in a collaborative manner. It will train and support academics and students in the appropriate use of the CCP14 based programs. In the last 6 years, CCP14 h~ become the hub of international collaboration for small-molecule crystallographic software. Other software repositories exist, but they are entirely passive. The 'added value' provided by Lachlan Cranswick comes from his active interaction with the original authors, his verification that the programs. run, his provision of tutorials independent of the perspective of the original authors, and his determination to make the younger community aware that there is a wide range of crystallographic tools available in addition to those provided by instrument makers.
