Abstract

The introduction of computer networks and the widespread use of the internet, coupled with big advances in communications technology have led to a big increase in the amount of data that needs to be stored or exchanged across a network over the last few years, so the threat of its interception during transmission or storage has become a major concern. Algorithms which help prevent intercept and enhance data security are now of primary importance. This requires, novel efficient and low-complexity encryption algorithms that can offer security for fast evolving communication applications which have grown in size and complexity, encompassing a wide diversity business functions which must be secured against intrusion threats that are continually increasing in frequency and sophistication. Therefore, the aim of this project is to develop a new approach for secure communications and data storage. The new Mersenne number transforms have been shown to be highly sensitive; a small change in the transform domain results in a complete change in the original data. This property can be exploited to develop new methods of data encryption which are capable of providing significantly higher security levels than existing techniques with low complexity and implementation costs. It is apparent there would be interest in the applications of this research making the support for this project cost-effective.
