Abstract
Research into such areas as colossal magnetoresistance and high temperature superconductivity has shown charge ordering to be an important aspect in the electronic structure of transition metal oxides. Despite this, the driving forces behind the ordering and the origin of the often complex arrangements of charge are not well understood. We aim to undertake a systematic investigate into a number of targeted systems to derive general predictive rules governing the phenonemon of charge ordering. These rules will allow for the isolation of a number of new charge ordered states showing unique properties.
