Future of UK Treescapes Ambassadors

Lead Research Organisation: Imperial College London
Department Name: Centre for Environmental Policy

Abstract

The Future of UK Treescapes is an exciting programme of research designed to add to our understanding of where woodland expansion should in future take place, what it should look like, who should deliver it and how it can most cost effectively be achieved. As Ambassadors for the programme, our role will be to ensure that the work that is commissioned assists policymakers, stakeholders and practitioners in the decisions they will need to take in coming years while at the same time making sure that the highest standards of scientific and scholarly research are achieved by the researchers themselves. We will operate at a number of different levels, working with project leaders and researchers to ensure that as academics they have as many opportunities as possible to exchange ideas and understandings. But we will also function as the public face of the programme, drawing attention to the outputs from projects and their importance and facilitating a 'Great Debate' about our trees, woods and forests and helping promote the changes in public policy, business practice and public commitment that will be needed if we are to fulfil the ambition of truly sustainable set of treescapes in the UK.
