Description The reseach in this grant is ongoing. The grant was used to develop a frame for a new series of stat-of-the-art detectors which can accurately measure very short nuclear state lifetime. The frame was constructed and a test experiment performed. This experiment revealed for ths first time, that lifetime measurements could be performed for a distributed source at the focal plane of a gas-filled separator rather than the small recoil spot at the focal plane of a recoil-mass separator. A host of corrections had to be performed to get the final lifetime result which was checked against a known lifetime.
Exploitation Route This holding structure and experimental correction method will be used by several internationsl groups who will perform experiments with it to measure accurate nuclear-state lifetimes in exotic nuclei not accessible before.
