Description PhD projects have been completed on the following topics: tracing large-scale structure in the Universe via radio sources; a study of active galactic nuclei (quasars) and their environments at far-infrared wavelengths; digital mapping of the northern Galactic Plane at high angular resolution.
Exploitation Route Through publications and further exploitation of the results by the worldwide astronomical community. One of these projects has made contributions to the development of a very large database mapping the stars in the northern Milky Way -- the student who has done the work aims to take the high level data-mining/manipulation skills developed into a career in UK information technology
Sectors Digital/Communication/Information Technologies (including Software),Education,Culture, Heritage, Museums and Collections

Results and Impact Bayfordbury open evenings are held 6x a year and are usually attended by 300+ members of the public, of all ages. We entertain them with talks, a planetarium, the chance to look through our telescopes, and hands-on activities.

We host a website, and have participated in BBC outreach events. We are known in the area through these events, and get asked from time to time by local radio for interviews touching on astronomy news.
