Abstract

Abstracts are not currently available in GtR for all funded research. This is normally because the abstract was not required at the time of proposal submission, but may be because it included sensitive information such as personal details.

Deisting A (2020) Commissioning and beam test of a high pressure time projection chamber in Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment

Description Simulations of a high pressure TPC showed that with 5 bar pressure and 0.25 cm2 pitch, such a detector can address nuclear model deficiencies important to the discovery of CP violation.

Operation of the TPC showed this pitch can be achieved.

A successful beam test proposal to CERN won 5 weeks of beam time in late 2018. Analysis of the data is underway.
Exploitation Route The instrument constructed with the funds from this proposal now underpins a UK-led bid for AIDA funding (to be submitted in March 2020).
