Description As part of this award, we have been developing an innovative particle detector. While the main aim of this detector is fundamental science, there are many potential applications of such technology; particle detectors have found common use in healthcare/medical imaging, for example.
Exploitation Route We will continue the development of the detector for its original application. The technical design has been published, and this could be picked up and used by others to develop new applications.

Description The award allowed four UK universities to join a project based in Switzerland. This gave access to the technology, collaboration, and in future the results of this new experiment. It brought a new research strand to the UK, with real potential for the discovery of a new knowledge of the universe on a fundamental scale.

Sector Learned Society
PI Contribution Lead author and editor of the Mu3e contribution to the Snowmass Process in 2022.
Collaborator Contribution The Particle Physics Community Planning Exercise (a.k.a. "Snowmass") is organized by the Division of Particles and Fields (DPF) of the American Physical Society. Snowmass is a scientific study. It provides an opportunity for the entire particle physics community to come together to identify and document a scientific vision for the future of particle physics in the U.S. and its international partners. Snowmass will define the most important questions for the field of particle physics and identify promising opportunities to address them. The P5, Particle Physics Project Prioritization Panel, will take the scientific input from Snowmass and develop a strategic plan for U.S. particle physics that can be executed over a 10 year timescale, in the context of a 20-year global vision for the field.
Impact A series of reports and meetings feeding in to the P5 process in the US, a major strategic planning process determining the future direction of the field.
Start Year 2022
