Galway Liverpool Imaging Polarimeter

Lead Research Organisation: Liverpool John Moores University
Department Name: Astrophysics Research Institute

Abstract

We propose to prototype a new technique in optical polarimetry, combining previous developments led by the groups at the University of Galway and Liverpool John Moores University. Polarimetry allows the measurements of magnetic field and dust properties in distant astronomical sources that can not be imaged directly. The grant will be used to design the optics of the instrument and procure the hardware components necessary to build a test setup.
