PATT Linked Grant: Observational Astrochemistry @ Strathclyde
Lead Research Organisation:
University of Strathclyde
Department Name: Physics
Abstract
This proposal will fund one astronomer to observe on each allocated telescope time trip in the next two years from the Strathclyde Astrochemistry group. In the densest, darkest regions of space where stars are just beginning to form, a wealth of chemical activity occurs, in both the gas and solid phase. Although gas and solid materials have been observed for many years, we are now undertaking an observing programme to 'map' both materials concurrently, on the same scale, to see just how the gas and solids interact during star-formation using various telescopes worldwide.

Description | This grant was used to fund observing trips to telescope facilities for HJF's research group during the 2009-2011 period that she was active in Strathclyde. During that time we visited telescope facilities in Spain, Hawaii, Chile and America, undertaking IR and sub-mm observations of star forming regions. |
Exploitation Route | The data collected during observations is then used to write scientific papers, published over the 2009 - date period and this data is still being used to inform our research today. |
