Funding extension for research staff Chavez and Payne and Touramanis project manager buy-out for T2K-UK construction project

Lead Research Organisation: University of Liverpool
Department Name: Physics

Abstract

PPARC/STFC have approved a major UK contribution to the T2K experiment in Japan, aiming to perform precision neutrino mixing measurements. Professor Touramanis has a buy-out as T2K-UK project manager, to be extended from this proposal for FY10/11. Dr Chavez and Dr Payne have been working full-time on T2K and this proposal extends their funding for one year from October 2009. Funds have been approved in the final STFC approval (July 2008 Council meeting).

Description These grants supported the delivery of a major part of the T2K experiment's Near Detector. Using T2K data we made the first observation of electron-neutrino appearance in a man-made muon-neutrino beam in 2013.
