Abstract

Abstracts are not currently available in GtR for all funded research. This is normally because the abstract was not required at the time of proposal submission, but may be because it included sensitive information such as personal details.

Planned Impact

High Luminosity LHC is the most important current project in Particle Physics and one of the most important large infrastructure projects in the world. This contribution will investigate novel beam collimation techniques for controlling the very high intensity HL-LHC beams. These beams have an enormous stored energy and uncontrolled beam losses could cause serious damage to the LHC components. Due to the very large stored energy, new collimation techniques are required and without these, HL-LHC will not be able to achieve its full physics reach.

As well as being crucial for the LHC, these collimation techniques may also be beneficial for other high power accelerators, both in particle physics and elsewhere.
