Abstract

This project builds on and extends successful previous PhD topics (Jin, Hutton and Collinson).
It combines existing multi-wavelength archine data and new observations from both ground-based telescopes and satellites, with state-of-the-art models developed here in the Durham astronomy group. Amongst the aims and outcomes, are to gain a better understanding of black hole spin and the physics of outflows, both jets and winds, in AGN, in particular the influence of high accretions rates (Eddington ratios).

Results and Impact Around 20 people (postgraduate students, professors and research staff) attended a talk given as part of the Van Mildert College postgraduate research seminar series. A lively question and answer session took place after the talk, and lead to more in-depth discussions with the audience about the research.
