Abstract

The main reason for me to undertake the Arab World Studies MSc at the University of Edinburgh is to improve and strength my Arabic skills as well as to further my knowledge of the Arab world. All of these with the purpose of obtaining a PhD. I have studied Arabic for four years and have travelled and stayed in numerous occasions in Arabic-speaking countries (Tunisia, Egypt, Jordan, Palestine...). Despite this I still consider my language level too low to begin a PhD, which would constitute an obstacle to an unbiased result.

This is why I have applied to the LBAS MSc + Ph.D. (2+3) programme offered by the University of Edinburgh, as I believe it will enable me to continue on my academic career path. And without any doubt the Arab World MSc is the first and most important step in order to achieve my main objective, which is to undertake the PhD in Edinburgh under the direct supervision of Dr. Andrew Newman and Dr. Thomas Pierret. I think this unique experience to work with some of the best specialist in my field will enable me to carry on my research in a successful way and will also ease my access into the academic world.
