Description I have discovered previously lost eyewitness accounts of the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic and also previously unseen personal correspondence of Richard Collier, who gathered eyewitness accounts in the 1970s. I have argued that the Spanish Flu, often remembered as the 'forgotten' pandemic, was in fact not forgotten and instead the memory of the Spanish Flu manifested in diverse ways around the world. I have been the first to write about the centenary commemorations of the 1918 pandemic and the reasons behind the different manifestations of Spanish Flu memory in Australia, New Zealand, and the UK in 2018-2019. I have also discovered the modern appetite for first hand accounts of this historical event in public audiences.
Exploitation Route Further work would benefit from considering in more detail traditions resulting from the pandemic in societies with oral history traditions, particularly in Africa.
