Abstract

We investigate applications of the framework of Higher Gauge Theory: the non-abelian self-dual strings
are the BPS objects of the 6d N=(2,0) superconformal field theory describing the dynamics of multiple M5-branes. We realize the basic non-abelian self-dual string in the framework of Higher Gauge Theory in terms of higher connection forms on a Lie n-algebra. We then also use the resulting gauge structure to formulate a (1,0)-superconformal theory that contains the full (2,0) field content. This theory satisfies all relevant consistency checks. Further directions include investigating the algebra structures used in these approaches and their connection to Borcherds-Kac-Moody algebras
