Investigating Dark Energy and Modified Gravity with Effective Field Theory

Lead Research Organisation: University of Edinburgh
Department Name: Sch of Physics and Astronomy

Abstract

The accelerated expansion of the Universe is one of the biggest mysteries in Cosmology and
Physics. In this project a board class of theoretical models are studied using the framework
of Effective Field Theory. These theories are matched to the Horndeski model at linear order,
with the nonlinear regime completed by the Horndeski model. We will investigate how this model
affects large and small-scale structure in the Universe, and compare this class of theories with
current observations and in preparation for the forthcoming Dark Energy survey such as
Euclid, LSST and SKA.
